The Brief
A commissioned ballet with choreographer Kevin Jenkins and San Diego's Ballet Counterpointe. The work details the struggle to stay afloat amidst storms both personal and societal - a diving inward, struggling under the waves of raw emotion, and learning to ride those waves.
The Approach
Built as a song cycle rather than a single through-composed score, so each movement could sit with one emotional weather system before the next arrives. Woven through with sampled material from collaborators, grounding the concert work in the language of the records.
The Outcome
Staged by Ballet Counterpointe with a six-dancer company.
