What You Want
A ballet for Ariel Rivka Dance, built from the dancers' own movement and breath.
The Brief
Commissioned by Ariel Rivka Dance. The collaboration began when choreographer Ariel Rivka sent videos of movement to composers Summer Dregs and Stefania - a journey layered with dissonance, meditation and desire.
The Approach
Rather than scoring finished choreography, the composers developed musical sketches directly from the dancers' movement and breath sounds, then worked iteratively - music and choreography shaping each other across drafts.
The Outcome
Part I premiered in 2022 at Manhattan Movement and Arts; Part II premiered in 2023 at NYU.
