How to Sue The Klan

Five Black women take on the Ku Klux Klan in a case still cited in courtrooms today.

The Brief

From the office of civil-rights attorney Ben Crump, this documentary tells the legal story of five women who used courtroom ingenuity to dismantle Klan power. The sound had to carry the weight of legal history without ever tipping into manipulation - the women's voices were the score.

The Approach

Built a sound design language that let archival material breathe - courtroom recordings, ambient field tones, restrained underscore that disappeared when testimony arrived. Every mix decision was a choice about whose voice carried the moment.

The Outcome

Emmy and NAACP Image Award winner. Continues to be cited in legal classrooms and civil-rights screenings.
